What is Supported Living Services?

Supported Living Services are designed to help adults with developmental disabilities live as independently as possible in a home they own or rent.

SLS is person-centered. The individual’s goals, choices, relationships, and changing needs guide planning, including decisions about where and with whom they live and what support may help them move toward their goals.

What is Supported Living Services?

Supported Living Services help adults with developmental disabilities establish and maintain life in a home they own or rent, with individualized support based on their goals and needs.

Who is SLS for?

California DDS describes SLS as a service for adults with developmental disabilities who choose to live in homes they own or lease in the community. Eligibility, authorization, and individual service planning are handled through the person’s applicable Regional Center and Individual Program Plan process.

What kinds of support can SLS include?

Depending on the person’s needs and authorized plan, SLS may include support with choosing or moving into a home, daily living, emergencies, community participation, choosing attendants or housemates, and personal financial affairs.

Does someone have to live alone to receive SLS?

No. SLS is centered on the person’s choices, including decisions about where and with whom they live. Individual arrangements depend on the person’s preferences, needs, and plan.
